Unholy Union
Unholy Union follows a young nun, Mary, whose encounter with an old friend, Meg, leads to an awakening of lust and desire. After being attacked by an obscure vampire, Mary must inevitably give in to her appetite for Meg and endure her transformation. The genesis of this story comes from classical homoerotic undertones of the horror genre and the deep connection this has to the queer people part of this production.
A Post-modernist take on the story of Adam and Eve. Where Adam doesn’t exist, Eve is a nun in training, the fruit of knowledge - forbidden - is the romantic interest, and the Serpent is Lilith, Adam’s first wife, a Vampire.
The concept of the forbidden fruit being about sexual exploration and desire is not an original idea. It is exhaustively explored in popular culture we see it in music, in films, in paintings, in literature... So how would I come up with a story I, as an individual and artist, care about? Simple: Make it GAY
I had the pleasure of writing the script for Unholy Union and being a part of the production as 1st Assistant Director, allowed me to witness the different approaches the Director chose to take.
